The creation of the Illinois Department of Early Childhood (IDEC) presents an opportunity for parents and providers to help shape the future of early childhood in Illinois. WTV supports their participation in IDEC meetings and decision-making processes to ensure the department continues to reflect the needs and experiences of the communities it serves.
IDEC Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
On July 1, 2026, IDEC officially began administering early childhood programs in Illinois as they transfer over from other state agencies. As the transition continues, We, the Village will be sharing what we know about the status of program administration, funding, licensing procedures, and other frequently asked questions as they are shared by IDEC.


IDEC Transparency and Equity Analysis: Progress, Gaps, & Recommendations
In 2024, the We, the Village (WTV) coalition submitted two sets of transparency and equity recommendations to IDEC and its Transition Advisory Committee (TAC) to support the successful development of Illinois’ new early childhood education and care (ECEC) agency.

July 1, 2025 marked one year since the launch of IDEC! To mark the occasion, the WTV Coalition hosted a virtual town hall on July 15, 2025.
The town hall featured panelists from IDEC and voices from the early childhood field, followed by an audience Q&A. Our panelists reflected on department progress, shared feedback from parents and providers, and discussed the future of the department.
